Atra Mountains | Procedural Landscape

The landscape was originally inspired by the Tatra mountains, but during the process I decided to use some artistic liberties and just have fun. It has 5x5 km with World Partitioning and is ready for the Level Designers to decorate it further.

The base of the landscape is created in Houdini with it's heightfield tools. All generated data is passed to a Biome tool, which assigns Landscape Layers to the right places, making their spread look organic. That terrain is imported to Unreal, where further Scattering tools add additional level of detail.

Everything was created in Unreal using tools made in Houdini. Foliage assets and textures come from Megascans. The sky comes from the Ultra Dynamic Sky pack. The tools are based on Houdini Masterclasses and various GDC talks, mainly from: Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Far Cry 5.
